Tom Cruise & Robert Downey Jr. Prepping For EL PRESIDENTE

By AMC May 15, 2012

Stop and think about it for a second. Are there currently two bigger superstar actors in the world right now than Robert "I'm Iron Man" Downey Jr. and Tom "Mission Top Gun Impossible" Cruise? Even with Cruise's massive career his most recent film "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" was the biggest of his life and Robert Downey Jr. is currently leading the biggest movie opening (Avengers) the world has ever seen. I'd say the stock prices on these two are incredibly high.

With that being said… how high is the potential for a film featuring both of them together?

That's what appears to be happening as reports are coming out that both Cruise and Downey are preparing to star in the upcoming comedy "El Presidente" which will be directed by Jay Roach.

Roach has made a career out of making hit comedies such as the Austin Powers films, "Meet the Parents" and the upcoming Will Ferrell comedy "The Campaign" opening in AMC Theatres everywhere on August 12th.

"El Presidente" is said to be about:

"…an overzealous Secret Service agent whose work-life boundary issues get him reassigned to the inglorious task of guarding America’s worst former president, who is a bumbling sleaze. The job suddenly becomes exciting when a threat is made on the ex-president’s life and they must go on the run."

Word is that Cruise would play the secret service agent and Downey would play the playboy ex-president. Seems fitting don't you think?

So jump into the comments section below and let us know what you think. Do you think this pair would work well together in a comedy again (they never had any scenes together in "Tropic Thunder" but they did both star in that film… and it was hilarious)? Do you like the premise? Do you think audiences will run out to see it?
