The most famous love story of literature has been adapted in a version faithful to the original tragedy of Shakespeare thanks to the talent of Charles Gounod, one of the greatest representatives of the French lyric drama. Romeo and Juliet is back on the stage of the Gran Teatre del Liceu after 32 years of absence. This co-production with the Santa Fe Opera, conducted by Josep Pons, stars Saimir Pirgu and Aida Garifullina in the title roles. The staging of Stephen Lawless inscribed the action in the context of the Civil War in the United States 1861-1865.
