Matt Fowler, a doctor practicing in his native Maine, is married to New Yorker Ruth Fowler, a choral music teacher. Their lives are simple until their only child, Frank, comes home from college for the summer to earn money for graduate school in the fall. Frank becomes the source of the small town's talk becuase of his involvement and love affair with single mother, Natalie. In the midst of Maine's beautiful but fleeting summer, these characters find themselves deeply entrenched in unimaginable tragedy.
