A valentine to the city of Tokyo, Ms. Coppola's film, from her original screenplay, contemplates the unexpected connections we make that cannot last yet might stay with us forever. Bob (Mr. Murray) is an actor in town to shoot a whiskey campaign, while Charlotte (Ms. Johansson) has tagged along with her workaholic photographer husband. Unable to sleep, the duo's paths cross one night in their hotel bar. These two lonely Americans befriend each other and, over the course of the next week, embark on adventures in Tokyo together.
