The movie is based on the true story of millionaire construction magnate Don Aronow, who turns into a speedboat racing champion after relocating from New Jersey to Miami Beach. He wants to succeed without help from his mob connections but he turns back to his mob benefactor for money when he is unable to keep up with his powerboat racing demands. He becomes the mob`s respected earner. Later, when Bush becomes Vice President, Aronow also provides boats to the customs service and the DEA, which they use in the war on drugs. Aronow`s double life soon lands him in trouble with not only the drug lords but also the law. Based on the book by Arthur J. Harris.
