History tells us that Napoleon Bonaparte died in exile on the island of St. Helena. Or did he? In 1821, a secret network of Napoleonic loyalists hatch an ingenious plot: the Emperor (Ian Holm) will return to Paris, and a double will take his place in exile. Switching identities with able-bodied seafarer Eugene Lenormand (Holm, in a double role), Napoleon sets out to reclaim his throne. But when a crucial link is missed, the former Emperor finds himself back in Paris, alone and friendless - until he meets and falls for a beautiful widow (Iben Hjejle), in this comedic, heartwarming tale of fate and friendship, all dressed-up in The Emperor's New Clothes.
