The real-life story of one working wife and mother who became a hero to hundreds during World War II. In 1939 Poland, Antonina Zabinski (portrayed by two-time Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain) and her husband, Dr. Jan Zabinski (Johan Heldenbergh from THE BROKEN CIRCLE BREAKDOWN), have the Warsaw Zoo flourishing under his stewardship and her care. When their country is invaded by the Nazis, Jan and Antonina are stunned -- and forced to report to the Reich's newly appointed chief zoologist, Lutz Heck (Daniel Bruhl of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR). To fight back on their own terms, the Zabinskis covertly begin working with the Resistance -- and put into action plans to save lives out of what has become the Warsaw Ghetto, with Antonina putting herself and her family at great risk.

    Jessica Michelle Chastain was born in Sacramento, California, and was raised in a middle-class household in a northern California suburb. Her mother, Jerri Chastain, is a vegan chef whose family is originally from Kansas, and her stepfather is a fireman. She discovered dance at the age of nine and was in a dance troupe by age thirteen. She began performing in Shakespearean productions all over the Bay area. An actor in a production of "Romeo & Juliet" encouraged her to audition for Juilliard as a drama major. She became a member of "Crew 32" with the help of a scholarship from one of the school's famous alumni, Robin Williams. In her last year at Juilliard, she was offered a holding deal with TV writer/producer John Wells and she eventually worked in three of his TV shows. Jessica continues to do theatre, having played in "The Cherry Orchard", "Rodney's Wife", "Salome" and "Othello". She spends her time between New York and Los Angeles, working in theater, film and TV. In 2011, she had a prolific year in film. She was nominated for and won a number of awards, including a 2012 Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for The Help (2011).

    Efrat Dor is an Israeli Actress. She was born and raised in Omer, South of Israel. She is of Polish, German and Russian descent. Efrat began acting in high school as a drama major, and trained as a ballet dancer at the Bat-Dor Ballet School in Beer-Sheva. Dor trained at the Beit Zvi School for the Performing Arts in Israel and also spent time studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in NYC. She began her professional acting career by appearing in Israeli films and television series, Dor made her feature film debut in Phobidilia (2009) (2009), for which she took part in the Berlin film festival that year. Efrat first gained recognition in Israel for her role as Shir Ambar in the TV drama Asfur (2010) (2010). She continued work non stop in Israel with leading parts in both TV and Films yet attracted widespread interest in 2017 for portraying Magda Gross in the Niki Caro film The Zookeeper's Wife (2017) (2017) alongside Jessica Chastain and Daniel Brühl. Dor also starred in the English speaking French film Holy Lands (2017) (2018). Efrat has recently joined the esteemed cast of Amazons hit show Sneaky Pete (2015) (2019) for their third season.
