Drama
Summer in a Swiss village around 1900. When the 17-year-old novice Elisabeth found out about the sudden death of her eldest sister Innocente, she felt compelled to return to her family's farm. As soon as she arrives, a strange silence surrounds her sister's death. But Elisabeth suspects that there must be more behind it. Between hard work in the fields, the Christian-conservative family home and the furtive glances of the male village youth, she dives deeper and deeper into the secrets of Innocente. The highly talented French-speaking Swiss director Carmen Jaquier explores female emancipation in the midst of oppressive social norms in impressively composed images.
