It’s been a few years since Lisbeth Salander’s last adventure in THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. Now she’s back, in Sony’s new THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB, opening on November 9. It’s based on the novel of the same name, which continued late Swedish author Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium” series. Lisbeth has a new focus, as she’s set on righting the world’s wrongs by getting justice for domestic abuse sufferers, and eliminating the abusers. THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB is technically a sequel, but it’s also a reboot of sorts. As such, the actors from DRAGON TATTOO are not returning. However, THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB features some of Hollywood’s finest. So, before the film hits theaters, let’s take a look at who’s playing the leading roles. Claire Foy While Rooney Mara portrayed Lisbeth Salander in the previous film, Claire Foy takes over for THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB. This time, the character will find herself caught in a web of corruption as she attempts to exact revenge on the abusers of battered women. Foy is undoubtedly best known for her portrayal of the young Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix series THE CROWN, a performance that garnered her several award nominations. She has also appeared in BEING HUMAN, THE PROMISE, and WOLF HALL. She was more recently seen in the films FIRST MAN, and Steven Soderbergh’s thriller UNSANE. Sverrir Gudnason Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason takes Daniel Craig’s former role, journalist Mikael Blomkvist. In addition to being a reporter, Blomkvist has also been Lisbeth’s lover. The character will feature heavily in the main story, as he accompanies Lisbeth on her journey. Gudnason is perhaps best known for portraying Pontus Höijer in the second season of WALLANDER, and he recently featured in film BORG VS. MCENROE. Lakeith Stanfield Lakeith Stanfield is featured as Edwin Neeham. Very little is known about Neeham at this stage, other than the fact that he’s a security expert from the NSA. In that position, he’s charged with tracking Lisbeth. Stanfield made his acting debut in SHORT TERM 12, and has gone on to appear in big films including GET OUT, SELMA, and STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON. His best role has been on television, however. Since 2016 he has played Darius Epps on the FX series ATLANTA. Sylvia Hoeks Dutch actress Sylvia Hoeks features inTHE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB as Camilla Salander. As you can guess from her name, Camilla is related to Lisbeth. In fact, she’s her twin sister. Camilla is estranged from Lisbeth, however, and is also a suspect in multiple crimes. No doubt that’s going to be a problem for the justice-obsessed Lisbeth. Before she was an actress, Hoeks was a model. Her breakthrough performance was in Dutch film DUSKA. Hoeks’s highest-profile role came in BLADE RUNNER 2049, in which she portrayed Luv. She will star in the upcoming Apple TV series SEE. Stephen Merchant British actor Stephen merchant plays Frans Balder. In addition to being known as a performer, Merchant is well-known for his work behind the camera. He co-created the original UK version of THE OFFICE, as well as EXTRAS and HELLO LADIES. He also appeared in all three series. Merchant frequently collaborates with Ricky Gervais and Karl Pilkington, and has won awards for several of their projects together. As an actor, Merchant is largely known for his comedic performances but he had his first dramatic role in LOGAN, in which he played Caliban. THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB hits theaters on November 9.
