Following the smash hits DEADPOOL and LOGAN, the studio is hard at work on several projects, including next year's DARK PHOENIX, DEADPOOL 2 and NEW MUTANTS. But there's one film that the studio hasn't been able to get off the ground: Channing Tatum's GAMBIT. The spinoff has been in production hell ever since its announcement. It lost two directors, suffered several push-backs, and fans have basically given up on the possibility of seeing it someday. Just when the solo adventure seemed to have been scrapped, though, Channing Tatum reignited fans' hopes when he said that the film was in active development. Apparently the film's creative team is ditching the original story that was in place, and they're starting over. Hey U Guys caught up with Tatum at the red carpet for LOGAN LUCKY, and asked him what was going on with GAMBIT. The actor revealed that he's thankful for the several setbacks that it went through, because in the interim, DEADPOOL and LOGAN redefined what superhero movies can do — and this will allow the GAMBIT film to go down a bolder path: “I think we got lucky – we got hit with some setbacks and it was all for a good reason. We were trying to do something completely different. We were trying to do something that this genre of movie hasn’t seen before. We kept running into the same problems, and then 'Deadpool' and 'Logan' came through and kicked the doors down. Now we’re really getting to do some of the things we’ve always wanted to do with the script – we've just sort of started over.” Essentially, the GAMBIT movie would've probably been a safe, by-the-numbers superhero film, due to fears of fans not accepting the story's different nature. This offers a new perspective on all of the delays that the project faced. Simon Kinberg stated several times that the film's hiatus came as a result of them working to get the project right. Now, however, it's easier to see that the long development process came from worry of the movie being too different for audiences. Fortunately, things are changing, and this shift tells us something very important... Gambit Seems To Finally Be Going In The Right Direction With six to seven comic book films coming out every year, new Superhero adaptations need to bring something unique to the genre in order to stand out. GAMBIT is inherently a difficult character to base a movie around; he's a charming, super-powered thief, who was raised by a clan of thieves. There's not much to mine from his backstory through a traditional "save the world" blockbuster approach. Now that the movie is aiming for a more unconventional approach, however, there's hope for Gambit's story to be something truly special. There's very little we know about where the writers are taking the story, but if those aspects are approached with the right level of comedy and drama as they are in the comics, the film has the potential to be a great blend between DEADPOOL's comedic nature and Wolverine's dark undertones. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be able to get enough of a movie like that. Now, does this mean the GAMBIT film will defy expectations and become the next comic book classic? Not necessarily. We've seen comic book adaptations taking an unconventional route with their source material in the past with less than ideal results (cough, 2015's Fantastic Four, cough). So we have to prepare for that possibility. With that said, embracing the unique route offered by the source material is a step in the right direction, so I'm beyond excited to see what comes out of that. Hopefully, Tatum's passion for the character will translate into an awesome standalone adventure.

So far this summer, audiences have been absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes great movies, and it doesn't look like it's slowing down in August either! One of the movies that cinema goers are most excited for in the latter end of the summer is Steven Soderbergh's Logan Lucky. LOGAN LUCKY is a good old fashioned heist movie that follows the story of two brothers, Jimmy and Clyde Logan (Channing Tatum and Adam Driver), and their plan to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina. Sounds good right? Well, if that isn't convincing enough, let's go through five other reasons why LOGAN LUCKY could be the best movie of the summer. 1. Steven Soderbergh Is Back In The Heist Genre When you think of directors who've mastered the tricky heist genre, it's hard to look much further than Steven Soderbergh, the man behind the Ocean's trilogy, which stand as some of the best heist movies ever made. And with Soderbergh at the helm of LOGAN LUCKY it seems destined to fit right in with the heist movie renaissance we've had recently, involving films such as ANT-MAN and BABY DRIVER. 2. It Looks Like Channing Tatum's Best Role Yet Over the years Channing Tatum has totally broadened his movie choices, taking on various genres to showcase his acting range. He's really come into his own in the last three years with excellent films like Foxcatcher, 22 Jump Street and The Hateful Eight. However, it looks like LOGAN LUCKY could be Tatum's best performance yet. As shown in the trailers, his comedic timing seems even more perfect than ever, and despite a star-studded cast it looks like he might steal the show. 3. It Has Potential To Be One Of The Funniest Films This Year When it comes to a heist movies, comedy is essential. Steven Soderbergh is a director who's perfected this perfect blend of comedy and tension, and over the years he's made some genuinely funny movies like Magic Mike (which also starred Channing Tatum). Judging by the trailer alone, LOGAN LUCKY looks hilarious, with quips from the whole cast — especially Daniel Craig's unstable looking character, Joe. Fans will be super excited to see how Craig does in a comedic role, which is a breath of fresh air considering his last few roles have been the stern and serious James Bond. 4. The Early Reviews Are Amazing So far, LOGAN LUCKY currently stands at an amazing 100% Rotten Tomatoes. And while film lovers know it's not good to totally depend on early reviews, you still can't deny this is a great sign. Not to mention that at the time of writing the film had an excellent score of 81 on Metacritic! If these promising reviews are anything to go by, then we're looking at one of the summer's best movies. 5. The Cast Is Amazing This list has already spoken about the excellent immediate cast of LOGAN LUCKY —Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig and Adam Driver — but it hasn't yet mentioned the stellar supporting cast featuring tons of familiar faces. Including stars such as Sebastian Stan, Seth MacFarlane, Katie Holmes, Hilary Swank and Jim O'Heir, Logan Lucky is jam packed with star power who are sure to make the film shine. Taking into consideration the amazing cast, brilliant director, quirky humor and promising reviews, it's seems hard to doubt LOGAN LUCKY. Steven Soderbergh is making his first directorial return to since his 2013 retirement and it seems like he's going to hit the ground running! LOGAN LUCKY hits US theaters on August 18.

Rarely, if ever, have we cheered on the “bad guys,” but LOGAN LUCKY will make you do just that. With Joe free, the Logans and their friends, the Redneck Robbers, execute their plan to steal $14 million during NASCAR’s longest race and finally put an end to the Logan family curse. Not exactly your average underdog story or heist film — though director Steven Soderbergh has played in this genre before, with OCEAN’S 11, 12 and 13. “When I read (the script), it felt like it was a kind of film that I like to watch, the kind of film I like to make,” Soderbergh said in an interview with The Associated Press. “It was different. It didn’t feel like a repeat of the OCEAN’S movie. It’s in the same universe, but in a different galaxy.” LOGAN LUCKY is a “hillbilly heist:” carried out by a few good ol’ boys with nothing to lose; however, it stars an A-list cast, including Katherine Waterston, Sebastian Stan, Riley Keough, Hilary Swank, Seth MacFarlane and Katie Holmes.
