Anora

Sean Baker’s Cinderella story, ANORA, follows a young exotic dancer whose life is forever changed when she meets, falls in love with, and marries the son of a Russian oligarch. The chance at a better life is challenged when her fiance’s parents hear the news and rush to America to get the marriage annulled.
The Brutalist

Brady Corbet’s three-and-a-half-hour epic drama, THE BRUTALIST, follows a Jewish Hungarian architect as he immigrates to the United States following World War II and tries to make something of himself. After being discovered by a wealthy industrialist, the once world-renowned designer is tasked with designing and building a massively ambitious community center, a project that pushes him to his limits physically and spiritually.
A Complete Unknown

A COMPLETE UNKNOWN, James Mangold’s celebrated biographical drama about Bob Dylan, follows the transformative folk musician as he arrives in New York and becomes one of the biggest names in the music industry. The ups and downs of fame, major controversies in Dylan’s career, and the relationships that helped shape him and folk music in general, are all explored here.
Conclave

In his follow-up to ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT, Edward Berger turns his attention from the battlefields and trench warfare of World War I and throws audiences into the middle of the election of a new pope. CONCLAVE, with its thrilling story about new beginnings, faith, and how ambition blinds even the most noble of men, is a masterpiece through and through.
Dune: Part Two

Released much earlier in 2024 than the other Best Picture nominees, Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE: PART TWO brought to life the second half of Frank Herbert’s legendary sci-fi epic and Paul Atreides uniting the people of Arrakis to bring peace to the desert planet and get revenge against those who took everything from them. With the fate of the universe in the balance, the young yet powerful leader is forced to make a decision no man should face.
I'm Still Here

Walter Salles’ I’M STILL HERE, which also received nominations for Best International Feature and Best Actress (Fernanda Torres), is a Brazilian political biographical drama about an activist as she tries to keep her family together while also attempting to find her husband, who has been forced into exile for being a political dissident. Caught in the middle of it all, the brave and daring wife and mother attempts to make sense of the world around her and the events that led to her husband’s disappearance.
Nickel Boys

Inspired by the story of a generation of boys who survived a notoriously abusive reform school, RaMell Ross’ NICKEL BOYS, an adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s novel of the same name, follows two African-American boys as they are sent to a school for troubled youth in Jim Crow era Florida. Despite covering difficult and disturbing subject matter and featuring instances of violence and abuse, there is hope in this historical drama. With incredible performances by Ethan Herisse and Brandon Wilson, this beautifully shot and written Oscar nominee is a tour de force.
The Substance

Coralie Fargeat’s body horror dark comedy, THE SUBSTANCE, has a lot to say about modern society and how we treat our aging stars. In this absurdly funny, gory, and poignant exploration of beauty, fame, and aging in Hollywood, Demi Moore plays a fading celebrity who turns to a unique and mysterious program to be beautiful once again after being fired from her TV gig. However, the once-celebrated movie star soon finds herself being replaced by a younger version of herself, which sets her on a strange and unexpected path.
Wicked

In 2024, director Jon Chu brought one of the biggest Broadway sensations of the 21st century to the silver screen with WICKED. Based on the first act of the hit musical, this eye-popping and emotionally stirring box office hit stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda long before the days of THE WIZARD OF OZ and adds a great deal of context to the relationship between the two witches and one of the most beloved movies of all time.
