There are still plenty of anticipated movies coming out in 2023. In the final months of the year, we will experience an assortment of terrifying horror movie villains, comic book antagonists, and multiple other bad guys in movies like SAW X, THE MARVELS, KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, and so much more.
As we close out what could very well be the best year moviegoers have experienced in nearly half a decade, we just can’t overlook some of the movie villains that will soon be gracing the screen at an AMC Theatres location near you….
Martin Scorsese’s long-awaited epic, KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, will finally arrive on the big screen this October, bringing with it a story of murder, mystery, greed, the pursuit of happiness, and manifest destiny. This sprawling crime drama, which is based on true events, tells the story of an Osage Nation tribe whose members became wealthy overnight and then killed nearly as fast in the Oklahoma oil boom of the 1920s.
Though there will surely be many unsavory characters in KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, it will be hard for any to hold a candle to that of William Hale (Robert De Niro), a rich, jealous rancher believed to be at the center of mysterious deaths.
KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON opens October 20th
One of the most anticipated video game movies of the year, Emma Tammi’s FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S will bring to life the iconic killbot that is none other than Freddy Fazbear. After night watchman Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) takes a job watching an abandoned family entertainment center in the vein of Chuck E. Cheese, he soon discovers that he’s not alone in the once bustling building.
Freddy Fazbear, along with other animatronic characters will give audiences the scare of a lifetime when these robots come alive in the dark of night on the prowl for their latest kill.
FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S opens October 27th
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen its fair share of great villains over the years, and there could soon be another addition with Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton). A Kree revolutionary armed with a devastating hammer and assortment of other powers, this formidable foe could provide Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and company with quite a fight in Nia DaCosta’s THE MARVELS.
We don’t know a whole lot about Dar-Benn at this point, but if Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Kamala Khan (Iman Vallani) have to team up to fight her, she must be one heck of a threat.
THE MARVELS opens November 10th
When THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES arrives in November, it will show audiences an earlier era in the saga, one in which Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) isn’t the tyrannical leader we’ve come to know from the original “Hunger Games” books and movies, but instead a young man and mentor of Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler). But what about the villain we can’t wait to see?
Well, that honor goes to Dr. Volumnia Gaul (Viola Davis), the gamemaker for the 10th Hunger Games and someone who’s up to all sorts of dangerous and deceitful plans. And considering what Davis has done with her portrayal of Amanda Waller in various DC Comics movies and shows over the years, this is going to be awesome.
THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES opens November 17th
It seems not everyone is so keen on the idea of Willy Wonka (Timothée Chalamet) getting into the candy business in Paul King’s upcoming musical fantasy film, WONKA, especially the members of the Chocolate Cartel. Consisting of Arthur Slugworth (Paterson Joseph), Prodnose (Matt Lucas), and Fickelgruber (Mathew Baynton), this proud and pompous trio of candymakers appear to have a stranglehold on the industry with no plans of loosening their grip, especially for an up-and-comer with his enchanting world of pure imagination.
Like any good villain, this not-so-jolly group will surely make a big splash and experience an even bigger downfall in this new movie based on the work of Roald Dahl.
WONKA opens December 15th
With the way things left off for David Kane (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a.k.a., Black Manta, in AQUAMAN, it was all but guaranteed that the character would be coming at Aquaman (Jason Momoa) with everything he had in the film’s eventual sequel. And that still appears to be the case.
When AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM opens later this year, we’ll get to see more of Black Manta as he seeks out the DC superhero to avenge the death of his father, while also causing all sorts of destruction in the process. A motivated villain played by an incredible actor – what more could you want?
AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM opens December 20th
