Tim Curry's Pennywise Cameos In New IT Trailer

August 24th, 2017Tim Curry's Pennywise Cameos In New IT Trailer

Not every reboot honors the legacy of the original, but Andrew Muschetti, the director behind IT — one of the most highly anticipated horror films of the year — has managed to pay respect to what came before. And he brilliantly accomplished it without going way overboard.

The latest trailer for the 2017 remake, based on the novel by Stephen King, dropped Thursday morning. And hidden well inside was a little homage to the epic performance Tim Curry gave as Pennywise in the 1990 original miniseries.

Watch the trailer closely right at the end when Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård) charges at Richie Tozier, played by Stranger Things's Finn Wolfhard. Take a peek at the lefthand side of the screen and you just might catch it.

If not, take a look below. The doll sitting in the bottom left corner is an exact replica of the clown portrayed by Tim Curry. That's what I call an amazing cameo. So subtle, it's no surpise if many viewers didn't catch it the first time around.

For those fans wondering why there weren't more Easter Eggs, the new film is aiming to distance itself as much as possible from the original miniseries. The director doesn't want viewers walking away from the theater feeling cheated, having seen the same thing twice — and it will build our suspense to see a new, more intense version of the story.

The new IT is scheduled to hit theaters on September 8th, 2017.
