Video games are one of the biggest and most successful markets in entertainment. Big-screen adaptations of some of the great narratives found in some of these games have been very hit or miss. Some argue that the "Resident Evil" and "Tomb Raider" films aren't too bad and others may feel nostalgic for the so-bad-it's-good films like "Mortal Kombat" and "Street Fighter". But we are still waiting for a truly incredible video game adaptation, where it's not regarded as just a decent video game movie but just a great movie, period.

The big-screen adaptation of "Assassin's Creed" has definitely peaked our interest ever since Hollywood favorite Michael Fassbender has been attached to produce and star in it. The actor has had a serious slew of amazing performances over the years and if an actor of his caliber wants to get involved in this project, our enthusiasm builds along with him.

The script was penned by playwright Michael Lesslie with rewrites conducted by screenwriter Scott Frank ("Minority Report"). Up to this point, there were no real names being tossed around to helm but now it's being reported that "Safe House" director Daniel Espinosa has been in "persistent talk" to direct. While many had issues with "Safe House", the script is usually regarded as having the most flaws, while Espinosa actually delivered a pretty cool style to it. He seems like a solid pick to helm such a production but it's certainly not a done deal yet.

Fassbender will play Desmond Miles in the film. Miles is a bartender kidnapped by a secret corporation and sent back in time via the memories of his assassin ancestors, with the job of tracking down ancient artifacts. It will be interesting to see how they make this colorful story come to life on the big-screen.
