Directed by Paul King, WONKA is finally arriving at AMC Theatres, and the anticipated movie boasts a great cast of characters. The movie is based on the character of Willy Wonka in the Roald Dahl book, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and tells the origin story of the candymaker. WONKA features many talented actors and actresses that movie lovers everywhere know and love.

From Timothée Chalamet in the lead role to Hugh Grant to Sally Hawkins, here is the cast WONKA and who they’re playing.

Timothée Chalamet

First up on the WONKA cast is Timothée Chalamet, who will be playing the titular character, Willy Wonka himself. From the first trailer for WONKA, Chalamet captured our attention with the intriguing glimpses we’ve gotten of his portrayal of the eccentric character.

Chalamet has appeared in various movies before WONKA, including CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (which earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the Academy Awards® in 2018), LADY BIRD, BEAUTIFUL BOY, INTERSTELLAR, BONES AND ALL, LITTLE WOMEN, and more. He also was the star of the 2021 hit DUNE and will star in DUNE PART 2, releasing in March.

Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant has appeared in many movies over the last few decades, and in WONKA he will be playing an Oompa-Loompa, a character that most people know is a helper of Willy Wonka in his chocolate factory.

Grant has appeared in several films that have garnered him critical acclaim. These include, but aren't limited to, PADDINGTON 2, FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS, CLOUD ATLAS, THE GENTLEMEN, NOTTING HILL, TWO WEEKS NOTICE, FOUR WEDDING AND A FUNERAL and more. The actor has also appeared on television, most notably with his role in the HBO miniseries "The Undoing."

Rowan Atkinson

Rowan Atkinson is portraying Father Julius in WONKA, a priest who’s seen in a church in the trailer for Wonka – and also happens to get chased by a giraffe. The actor will surely make a splash with his character. Movie lovers most likely know Atkinson from his time playing the lead roles in sitcoms like "Blackadder" and "Mr. Bean," but the actor has also appeared in various films.

He portrayed Mr. Bean again in the movies BEAN and MR. BEAN'S HOLIDAY, but aside from that, he also appeared in movies such as FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL, LOVE ACTUALLY, NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN, and more. Atkinson is well-known for his fantastic voiceover role as Zazu in the Disney classic THE LION KING. It’ll be exciting to see what he brings to his role in WONKA.

Sally Hawkins

In WONKA, Sally Hawkins will play Mamma, Wonka's mother. Hawkins has appeared in various movies, many of which have earned her critical acclaim. One of her most known features is THE SHAPE OF WATER, directed by Guillermo del Toro, which earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Aside from that, Hawkins also appeared in movies such as Cassandra's DREAM, BLUE JASMINE, PADDINGTON and PADDINGTON 2, HAPPY-GO-LUCKY and VERA DRAKE, among many others. In 2021, she was a part of the supporting cast of the film SPENCER.

Tom Davis

Tom Davis will play Bleacher in WONKA, an inn owner who – per Radio Times – tricks Wonka into working for him and his co-owner of the hotel, Mrs. Scrubbit. Like a few others on this list, the actor has also appeared in PADDINGTON 2 but has had roles in movies such as ALL THINGS TO ALL MEN, THE BAD EDUCATION MOVIE, FREE FIRE, and PREVENGE.

Davis is primarily known for his role in the TV show, "Murder in Successville" and the British comedy, "King Gary," where he played the lead role, Gary King.

He has been in the business for a while. Carter gained much fame as Mr. Carson in the hit TV show, "Downton Abbey," which he reprised in both film spin-offs, DOWNTON ABBEY and DOWNTON ABBEY: A NEW ERA.

Some of his most known include PITCH PERFECT 2, THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE, DON'T THINK TWICE, and THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE.
