DUNE: PART 2 is coming to AMC Theatres, and as with most new films, there are tons of new characters that movie fans should get to know.
When DUNE released back in 2021, it became a massive success. The sci-fi drama garnered critical acclaim and several awards, but the story was not done. The director, Dennis Villeneuve, always intended for his adaptation to be at least two parts, according to Slash Film — and now we’re finally getting the sequel.
While several familiar faces will return in DUNE: PART 2, including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Dave Bautista, Rebecca Ferguson and more, there are plenty of new faces in the next part of the franchise who movie lovers should know about.
Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan)
First up on this list is Florence Pugh, who plays Princess Irulan in DUNE: PART 2. Probably considered one of the most anticipated castings of the film, the princess is the daughter of the Emperor, and one of the major new characters added to the story.
Pugh has become a major name over the last few years. Her star rose a lot in 2021, with her role as Yelena Belova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s BLACK WIDOW — and later, in the same year, appeared in the Disney+ series, “Hawkeye.” She is set to appear as Yelena again in the upcoming THUNDERBOLTS in 2025.
However, Pugh has done much more besides Marvel. She’s appeared in films that have garnered her critical acclaim, including LITTLE WOMEN, MIDSOMMAR, DON’T WORRY DARLING and in 2023, she was a part of the large OPPENHEIMER cast.
Austin Butler (Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen)
Austin Butler is another new cast member for DUNE: PART 2, and he is playing Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the nephew of Baron Harkonnen and the planned successor of Arrakis — who is almost as cruel and cunning as his uncle.
Butler has appeared in a variety of movies and TV shows over his years in the business. In 2022, he gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in the film ELVIS. Aside from that, Butler has appeared in such films as DUDE, THE DEAD DON’T DIE, ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD and more.
The actor also appeared in several television shows, receiving a main role on the popular Nickelodeon series, “Zoey 101,” but also appearing in other shows like “Drake & Josh,” “Hannah Montana,” “Jonas,” “Zeke & Luther,” and many more. He also held a role on “Switched at Birth,” and had a main role in “The Shannara Chronicles.” He’s set to star in the upcoming Apple+ series, “Masters of the Air.”
Christopher Walken (Emperor Shaddam IV)
Christopher Walken is another major actor added to DUNE: PART 2, and he will be playing Emperor Shaddam IV, one of the last Emperors of the Known Universe. With Walken signed on, there’s no doubt in any movie fan's mind that he can bring this character to life.
Walken has been in the movie business for a long time. In recent years, movie lovers might have seen him in films like PERCY, IRREPLACEABLE YOU, THE JUNGLE BOOK, NINE LIVES and more, but he’s also appeared in several major films over the past 40+ years, such as CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, A VIEW TO KILL, THE DEER HUNTER, BATMAN RETURNS and many, many others.
The actor also has plenty of experience in television as well, including shows like “The Outlaws” and the Apple TV+ hit “Severance.”
Léa Seydoux (Lady Margot)
In DUNE: PART 2, Léa Seydoux plays Lady Margot, who has a strong connection to the Emperor and acts almost like a confidant to him. She is also a Bene Gesserit, a term that DUNE fans might be familiar with, as Lady Jessica is also one.
Seydoux has primarily worked in France, but she’s appeared in several Hollywood films over the last decade. Some of her most prominent roles include INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, ROBIN HOOD, MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — GHOST PROTOCOL, THE FRENCH DISPATCH, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and many others.
The actress has had few appearances on television, but she does also work as a model, and is a Louis Vuitton ambassador.
Souheila Yacoub (Shishakli)
The last new face from DUNE: PART 2 is Souheila Yacoub, who will be playing Shishakli in the upcoming sci-fi drama. She is a Fremen warrior — and is a character who, in the novel, was a man, but that was changed for the film.
Yacoub has appeared in several French-language movies and TV series, including CLIMAX, MAKING OF and RISE. She also appeared in the TV show “No Mans Land” in a main role.
With so many great roles in this upcoming film, it’s no surprise that the new characters for DUNE: PART 2 are played by wonderful actors full of so much talent. When the film releases, it’ll be time to head to a local AMC Theatre to check them out.
