The Baadshah of Bollywood Is Back August 4

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) returns to the silver screen with Anushka Sharma in JAB HARRY MET SEJAL. Opening August 4, the romantic comedy is the duo’s third collaboration, following RAB NE BANA DI JODI (2008) and JAB TAK HAI JAAN (2012).
The story revolves around Harry and Sejal's journey across Europe and their search for Sejal's engagement ring. From their adventure, Harry comes to understand love and relationships better, while Sejal experiences newfound freedom, security and solace in Harry's company. In between all of this, there is love, life, lies, thrill, fantasy and the search for the voice within.
This past year has been a milestone for SRK, who celebrated an incredible 25 years in the movie industry. Over the course of his career, he has appeared in more than 80 Bollywood films — and counting. It’s no wonder he has earned the nickname King Khan.
As we share in the excitement of his upcoming release, let’s take a closer look at Indian cinema’s crown jewel.
From TV Actor to Bollywood Icon
In 1989, SRK made his television debut in the army cadet training series “Fauji.” For the next couple of years, he starred and played minor roles in various other shows before moving to Mumbai in 1991 to pursue a career in Bollywood. He was immediately signed to four films, including DEEWANA, his introduction to film audiences.
DEEWANA was a box office hit, launching SRK into stardom and earning him the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance. This was only the beginning of his successful film career and hundreds (275 to be exact) of accolades.
CHENNAI EXPRESS was the highest-grossing film of 2013 and is currently the eighth highest-grossing film in India, followed by DIWALE (the 12th highest) and HAPPY NEW YEAR (the 15th highest) — all of which were produced by his company, Red Chillies Entertainments.
SRK has won 14 Filmfare awards total, eight of which are for Best Actor (a record). He has also won six IIFA Awards, eight Zee Cine Awards of which six are for Best Actor (also a record), 14 Star Screen Awards, three Bollywood Movie Awards and two Global Indian Film Awards. For his contributions to film, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award.
Using His Power for Good
Though he is one of the world’s most famous and highest-paid celebrities, SRK gives back to many different charitable organizations — not only with money, but also with his time. His philanthropic passions range from health care and education to the environment, clean water access and more. He even founded his own nonprofit, the Meer Foundation (named for his father), to support victims of acid attacks. He’s also been a spokesman and brand ambassador for various governmental campaigns.
