Summer has been filled with highly anticipated family-friendly sequels and reboots, like TOY STORY 4, THE LION KING and THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2. But fall will bring a brand-new heartwarming story that will take audiences to awe-inspiring new places.
In ABOMINABLE, teenager Yi (voiced by Chloe Bennet of Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) longs for excitement and adventure, and she gets more than she bargained for when she discovers a young Yeti hiding on the roof of her Shanghai apartment building. Instead of running scared, Yi befriends the magical creature, whom she names Everest after his home, and promises to reunite him with his family — with help from a couple of human friends.
The animated feature follows their epic 3,000-mile journey to the highest point on Earth. As if traversing the world isn’t dangerous enough, the venturesome group will also have to outrun the people who captured and displaced Everest in a secret laboratory. But we quickly discover Everest has a few tricks up his fur.
Sarah Paulson, Eddie Izzard and Michelle Wong all lend their voices to the new release from DreamWorks Animation, the studio behind fan favorites like SHREK, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON and TROLLS. As you can tell, the movie is expansive — not only in miles, but also in the animation. All of the landscapes are stunning, on a grand scale. Writer and co-director Jill Culton told Entertainment Weekly the story of ABOMINABLE also “gets big at the end of the movie.”
“It gets dangerous, it gets scary, the visuals are over the top. It is not an easy movie, and it deals with hard subject matters as well. I don’t want these movies to just be sheer entertainment, where people leave the theatre and they forget about it. I work so many years on these movies that they have to mean something.”
Bring the kiddos to see ABOMINABLE at AMC as soon as the movie opens September 27. Tickets are on sale now!
