Get You Some Action at the Theatre

Mark our words, this summer you’ll sit on the edge of your recliner seat when you see one (let’s be honest), all of these action movies. We have a mummy, a blonde spy, some transforming robots, a wonderful woman and a league of super heroes that excel in justice. Read on and prepare yourself for an action movie filled summer and fall.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
“This is a story about a man who doesn’t want to be king and his legacy,” said the film’s star, and 2017 CinemaCon Male Star of the Year, Charlie Hunnam. So, pretty much the exact opposite of all the King Arthur noble stories we’ve all heard and seen before, got it! The film also stars Jude Law, Eric Bana, Annabelle Wallis, Djimon Hounsou and is directed by Guy Ritchie. Check out the first trailer here. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword opens on May 12.
Wonder Woman
While THE Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot appeared via a video shout-out due to recently becoming a wonder woman in real life (congrats on the new baby), we were happy to see the film’s director Patty Jenkins and co-star Chris Pine on stage talk about the movie. Pine, who sported a crisply shaved head described the movie as a classic film with humor, love and action. Jenkins and Pine shared a new clip from the film and Pine remarked that Wonder Woman has “insane kinetic action with a dynamic Casablanca type love story.” Here’s the the most recent trailer Wonder Woman opens on June 2.
The Mummy
Sofia Boutella, CinemaCon’s Female Star of Tomorrow, was joined on-stage with her co-stars, Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson and director, Alex Kurztman. The remake is Universal’s tribute to the legendary monster film. In the movie, there is a zero-gravity scene that took 64 takes, two days, four flights and A LOT of puke bags to capture (that’s icky and awesome). Tom explained that he wanted the scene to be captured in real-time and functionality, not on green screen. We say, cheers to bringing that authenticity to the audience Tom! Universal is excited to go beyond the theatre with this film and will be displaying a VR (virtual reality) demonstration of the free-falling scene during CinemaCon. Since we can’t bring that to life for you, the trailer will have to do. The Mummy opens on June 9.
Transformers
Paramount brought out director Michael Bay and cast members Mark Wahlberg, Sophis Myles, Jerrod Carmichael, new-comer Isabela Moner and the Sir Anthony Hopkins. Transformers is the first movie to film in IMAX 3D, using two cameras to capture all of the action. Speaking of action, Michael Bay said the film is “a fresh new look on Transformers,” and that this would be his last Transformers film. Jerrod Carmichael, one of the new-comers to the franchise said that when Bay asked him if he wanted to be a part of the film his answer was short and to the point, “F*% yeah I do!” We’re with you Jerrod, we’d have the same response. You can watch the Transformers trailer here. It hits theatres on June 23.
Atomic Blonde
Atomic Blonde is an R-rated, wildly entertaining, spy, action thriller set in the cold war. Starring Academy Award winner, Charlize Theron, the film is based on the graphic novel about a M16 agent dragged into double/triple espionage. When director David Leitch spoke about Charlize Theron, he said she trained for three hours for three months so the action would look REAL, “She has an aptitude for action scenes.” Theron chimed in with, “we worked our b*lls off!” One key highlight from the upcoming film is the 10-minute fight scene which Theron described as “thrilling, exhausting and straight kick-butt!” Atomic Blonde also stars Sofia Boutella, James McAvoy and John Goodman. It opens on July 28.
Justice League
Lucky for us, the big Justice League news came last week. Did you see the latest trailer we shared here and here? Event hough we heard minimal new news about the film, it was great to see director Zach Snyder be joined on stage by Justice League cast members, Henry Cavill., Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher. Snyder spoke about how it was a huge honor to work with such an amazing cast. As a movie fan looking forward to this November 17 release date, we just ate this right up. Seriously, it is it November yet?!?!?
