If you’re a Disney fan that just happened to miss the box office run of their latest live-action sequel, MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL, you’re in luck! That film is now available to rent and buy on AMC Theatres On Demand.
Whether you’re looking to spend an afternoon in a land of magic or have some friends over for a full festival of fairy tales, you can celebrate the best of Disney’s live-action movies with the following titles, all of which are currently available on AMC Theatres On Demand!
What better way to celebrate the release of MALEFICENT’s sequel than to revisit the film that started it all? A reimagining of the "Sleeping Beauty" mythos, MALEFICENT, starring Angelina Jolie, fills in a lot of the backstory of the supposedly evil sorceress and her feud with the kingdom of Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning). Disney is at its darkest with this wicked spin on a well-worn classic.
Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil
OK, so there's one better way to celebrate MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL's on-demand release: by watching the film! Picking up after its predecessor's supposedly happy ending, MISTRESS OF EVIL sees Aurora (Elle Fanning) and Prince Phillip (Harris Dickinson) engaged to be married, with both Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) and Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer) needing to make peace with one another if things are going to work out. You can take a guess as to what happens next, in the blockbuster sequel that reveals more of both sides of their respective kingdoms.
Sometimes, Disney will take a story like SLEEPING BEAUTY and tell a different sort of tale in its remaking. And other times, like in the example of Kenneth Branagh’s big-budget adaptation of CINDERELLA, the studio will take what worked before and make it even better. While it’s mostly the same story you remember from your childhood, this modern variant of the ultimate midnight curfew–tale heightens the romance and comedy with the jump to live-action, creating a gorgeous mixture of a love story and farce.
The Jungle Book
In the original animated version of Disney’s THE JUNGLE BOOK, things were a bit more musical, and author Rudyard Kipling’s adventure played out like more of a fun and fancy-free comedy. It rightfully went on to become a classic, but Disney was ready to push the envelope when the decided to create a live-action remake set around the legendary story’s source material — which brought the world director Jon Favreau’s impressive revision that not only took the story into more dramatically impressive territory, but also secured Favreau the gig to direct another big-ticket live-action adaptation, THE LION KING.
What if Christopher Robin grew up, had a family and forgot about the Hundred Acre Wood? That’s a pretty huge ask if you’re a fan of A.A. Milne’s classic "Winnie the Pooh" books, and it’s the inspiration that CHRISTOPHER ROBIN would turn into a heartwarming live-action comedy hit. Under a huge deadline at work, Ewan McGregor’s adult incarnation of the child who adventured with Pooh, Piglet and others finds himself reconnecting with his old friends in a most unexpected way. Perfect for child and parent alike, it’s a tale that teaches the importance of family and friendship in a way that only a Disney movie can.
Our last pick is a story of dreaming big, flying high and becoming a legend in the hearts and minds of others. That may seem like a standard Disney adventure, but with DUMBO, the surprises come from Tim Burton’s gorgeous revisioning of the studio's staple. But at the heart of it all is a beautiful baby elephant that embodies the heart and soul of an entire circus’s dreams of the big time at the big top. Come for the cuteness, stay for the adventure!
