Disney Modern Classics In Theatres Again

Disney fans everywhere are rejoicing over Disney’s 100-year anniversary. Through its many decades, the popular movie studio has released amazing films that have become instantly recognizable and classic, making household names of its characters and the movies they appear in. Films like BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and MOANA have truly changed moviemaking.

In honor of Disney’s anniversary, the studio is re-releasing some Disney and Pixar movies, from THE LION KING to TOY STORY, and several others. If movie fans want to go see some of their favorites — or even take their families to see them for the first time in theatres — here are films that are re-releasing at select AMC Theatres.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Originally released in 2003, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL was a huge hit for Disney. Starring Johnny Depp as the brave but drunken pirate, Jack Sparrow, the first story in this billion dollar franchise follows Captain Jack when he teams up with Will Turner, a blacksmith, as well as the governor’s daughter, Elizabeth Swann, in order to get his ship back.

The franchise also stars big names such as Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightly and many more. There are five films in the series, but the first is arguably one of the most popular, and now it’s rereleasing for all to enjoy.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL will be in theatres from July 7th to July 20th

Toy Story

The first major motion picture from Pixar, an animation studio now owned by Disney, TOY STORY was a huge step forward in the world of animated movies. The first full-length 3D-animated film tells the story of Woody, a toy cowboy who suddenly feels inferior when his human, Andy, becomes obsessed with a new Buzz Lightyear action figure.

The film stars Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn and many more in the voice roles of the main toys, and the film itself was directed by John Lasseter, one of the biggest names in animation. The movie, which was originally released back in 1995, was a huge success, and led to a franchise that includes four movies, with another on the way.

TOY STORY will be in theatres from July 21st to August 3rd

Frozen

The cold never bothered her anyway. Return to the kingdom of Arendelle in FROZEN. The film, released in 2013, was a huge success for Disney, and told the story of Anna and Elsa, two sisters who were separated by tragedy when Elsa accidentally used her ice powers and harmed her sister. Now, Anna doesn’t remember Elsa has powers, and wants to become close to her once more – but one night, everything changes when her gifts are exposed to their kingdom.

The movie stars Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel in the main roles of Anna and Elsa, and was co-directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. The film became one of the highest grossing animated tales of all time – before being surpassed by its sequel six years later.

FROZEN will be in theatres from August 4th to August 17th

Beauty and the Beast

Tale as old as time, that’s how movie fans would describe BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. The film, released in 1991, is based on the novel of the same name, and tells the story of Belle, a young woman who becomes a prisoner of a hideous beast in a castle full of cursed objects, which used to be the staff. The only way to turn everyone back into a human is for him to find true love, and have someone love him in return.

The hit stars the voices of Paige O’Hara and Robby Benson as Belle and the Beast, but also features actors such as Richard White, Jerry Orbach and more. The movie was directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise, and was the first animated film in history to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards®.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will be in theatres from August 18th to August 31st

The Incredibles

Imagine a world where superheroes live among us; that’s what THE INCREDIBLES looks at. Another Pixar film, THE INCREDIBLES tells the story of Mr. Incredible, a former superhero who has put his people-saving days to the side in order to take care of his family and stay hidden in accordance with a mandate from the government. But, when he yearns for the old days of wanting to aid others, it draws his family into a world of trouble.

The film is directed by Brad Bird, and stars the voice talents of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell and Spencer Fox as the main characters. While it took more than a decade, the film did receive a successful sequel, which fans also enjoyed. But, there’s nothing quite like the original.

THE INCREDIBLES will be in theatres from September 1st to September 14th

Coco

The third Pixar film to top this list, COCO released back in 2017 and was directed by Lee Unkrich. The film tells the story of Miguel, a12-year-old boy who loves music but lives in a family that has banned it from their lives. Believing his grandfather to be a famous musician, he attempts to take his famed guitar in order to perform in a talent show, but as soon as he does, he is whisked away to the afterworld.

The movie was a great success for Pixar and featured fantastic representation of Mexican culture, while also providing a rich story that captured the hearts of fans everywhere. Featuring the voice talents of Anthony Gonzalez as Miguel, as well as Gael García Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Alanna Ubach and more, COCO is an amazing movie to watch on the big screen.

COCO will be in theatres from September 15th to September 28th

The Lion King

If a movie lover is asked about Disney, THE LION KING is certainly one of the first that comes up. Directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff and released in 1994, the animated film is inspired by “Hamlet” and tells the story of Simba, a young lion who aims to be king of Pride Rock one day, but when he loses his family, he must find his own path forward.

THE LION KING is hands down one of the best movies that Disney has ever released, and the continued popularity of it only proves that. Along with a whole Broadway show, the film also had a live-action adaptation — which is receiving a sequel not that long from now in the form of the upcoming MUFASA. The film stars the voice talents of Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons and more.

THE LION KING will be in theatres from September 29th to October 12th

Moana

Last but not least, Disney is releasing one of more recent classics, MOANA, which debuted in 2016. The film, directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, follows a young girl as she travels across the sea to find Maui, an ancient demigod, in order to restore the heart of Te Fiti to save her people.

The movie had songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and fantastic effects that would make any child or adult stare at the movie screen in awe. Featuring the voices of Auli’i Cravalho and Dwyane Johnson as Moana and Maui, the film was so popular that a live-action adaptation is expected to arrive in 2025.

MOANA will be in theatres from October 13th to October 26th
