You’ve got a friend in Pixar. That certainly seems to be an ongoing theme for the various classics put out by the animations studio. From Buzz and Woody to Dory and Marlin, the most memorable Pixar characters often come in pairs, and ONWARD introduces yet another new duo.
While you're waiting for the partnership of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt to reach theatre screens on March 6, AMC wants to give you an opportunity to relive some of the best Pixar buddy adventures. These movies are all available on AMC Theatres On Demand, so get the whole family together and head off on an animated excursion. Magical spells not included.
Up
The quintessential "mismatched duo on an adventure" story. Carl (Ed Asner) is a grumpy old man who has forgotten how to be spontaneous. Russell (Jordan Nagai) is a scout who’s eager to earn his next troop badge. When Carl unleashes a slew of balloons and lifts his house off the ground, they begin a journey that neither of them will ever forget. Especially Dug the dog.
Monsters Inc.
Of course, we have to mention Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sully (John Goodman) when talking about lifelong friends at Pixar. These two also are mismatched, but that’s part of their charm. Sully is a prime scare master, and Mike is the organized coach at MONSTERS INC. But their world gets turned upside down when a human child steps into their world. You will never look at the closet door in your bedroom the same after watching this delightful comedy.
Finding Nemo
How do you find one fish in an entire ocean? That’s the dilemma facing Marlin (Albert Brooks) when his young son, Nemo (Alexander Gould), gets "kidnapped" and placed in a fish tank miles and miles away. Thankfully, Marlin finds a friend named Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) who’s willing to drop everything and help him find his son… so long as she can remember what they're doing.
The Toy Story Series
There wouldn’t BE a Pixar without Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen). The success of the first TOY STORY and its sequels helped put the animation giant on Hollywood’s radar, and the spell these characters cast over audiences continues to this day as TOY STORY 4 continues to entertain. The family of TOY STORY has grown and changed over the years, with Andy passing the torch to Bonnie, and new toys meshing with old ones. But one thing that’ll never change is the love and affection we feel for this franchise.
Now that you're all caught up, get your tickets for Pixar’s latest, ONWARD, which sends on-screen brothers Tom Holland and Chris Pratt on a magical adventure to bring their late father back from the dead. Can they do it? Head to AMC on March 6 to find out.
