Last Night in SoHo Is Already Making a Play for the Best Movie of 2020

August 20th, 2019Last Night in SoHo Is Already Making a Play for the Best Movie of 2020

As we near the end of 2019’s box office calendar, our eyes turn to the future of 2020, as that particular release slate is looking better and better by the day. Recently, a long-awaited film got itself a specific release date, as Edgar Wright’s anticipated follow-up to BABY DRIVER, LAST NIGHT IN SOHO, has been penciled in for September 25 of next year.

The film is still a very mysterious project, as the only true details to the story of LAST NIGHT IN SOHO are that it’s a psychological horror, and it’s set in the great city of London. Though judging by the title, this thriller sounds like it’s going to be over the course of a single, eventful evening.

There is, however, a cast in place for LAST NIGHT IN SOHO, and it’s impressive enough to make this project something to look forward to in a little over a year’s time. Leading the cast is Anya Taylor-Joy, who was seen earlier this year in M. Night Shyamalan’s GLASS (below), and has been on a climb to the top since her breakout debut in THE WITCH.

She won’t be alone though, as “The Crown’s” Matt Smith and LEAVE NO TRACE star Thomasin McKenzie are also a part of the cast, with acting legends Diana Rigg and Terence Stamp rounding out the best known members of the LAST NIGHT IN SOHO cast. Again, not a lot of plot details are known at this time, but that’s enough of a lineup to get us excited.

So, why is LAST NIGHT IN SOHO a potential candidate for the best movie of 2020? Well, on top of an impressive cast, the talents of Edgar Wright have only seemed to grow more powerful with each subsequent film. BABY DRIVER in particular represented a huge artistic as well as commercial win for Wright, as it became his highest-grossing film.

It feels like the man is riding a pretty big wave right now, and LAST NIGHT IN SOHO can only cash in on that. With the right push, it could be Edgar Wright’s biggest film yet, as his fan base has grown in leaps and bounds since his last magic trick. And don’t be surprised if there’s an early debut for this film at SXSW next year, much like the director’s previous film. At this point, it’s the Wright move.

LAST NIGHT IN SOHO is slated to be released on September 25, 2020, so set your countdown clocks accordingly!
