If you want to be thrilled by massive, over-the-top and heart-pounding action movies on the biggest screen possible this year, you’re in luck beacuse AMC offers both IMAX and Dolby Cinema experiences that will elevate and immerse you in every scene.

Seriously, over the course of the next few months, we’ll see the newest installment in the John Wick franchise, catch up with Dom Toretto and exapanding ensemble cast in the epic FAST X, go on yet another impossible mission with Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, see the return of Denzel Washington’s EQUALIZER franchise, and see Sly Stallone, Jason Statham, and rest of the Expendables defy death and logic all over again.

Here is a look at just some of the upcoming action movies coming to an AMC Theatres this year.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre

Guy Ritchie’s new witty, action-packed spy thriller OPERATION FORTUNE: RUSE DE GUERRE, features a cast of frequent collaborators in the genre that marks Ritchie’s return to a since 2015’s THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Jason Statham and Hugh Grant lead an ensemble cast with Aubrey Plaza, Cary Elwes and Josh Hartnett in the spy thriller that was penned by Ritchie and his WRATH OF MAN and THE GENTLEMEN co-writers Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies.

John Wick: Chapter 4

Over the course of the past 30 years, Keanu Reeves has led not just action movies, but iconic cinematic experiences like POINT BREAK, SPEED, the MATRIX movies and the JOHN WICK franchise. On March 24th, Reeves will return to the silver screen for JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4, the long-overdue next installment in the action series about a reluctant assassin just trying to live out the rest of his days in peace and quiet without the shadowy High Table coming for his head.

It’s hard to put into words how excited we are for the return of Baba Yaga as he tries, once and for all, to end things, even if it means taking on every contract killer between New Jersey and Paris in the process. And, that anticipation goes up even more once you consider the debut of characters played by living legends like Donnie Yen, Clancy Brown and Hiroyuki Sanada. To get you up to speed, here are the rules of John Wick’s world.

Fast X

The boys and girls of summer are going to be back for another round of high-octane action with the May 19, 2023 premiere of FAST X, the 10th and possible penultimate chapter in hyper-successful FAST & FURIOUS franchise. The epic trailer was released during the Super Bowl and features Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and family being forced to take on a returning Cipher (Charlize Therron) and new threat with the arrival of Dante (Jason Momoa), it’s safe to say that fans of the series will be there, no questions asked.

With the way the franchise has gone since a much-needed retooling with 2011’s FAST FIVE, we can’t even say that the sky – or space – is the limit, as the past few movies have been there and done that in spectacular fashion. However, we’re not going to be upset if we get a full-on drag race in space that defies the laws of nature, physics and science.

FAST X opens May 19th

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One

If someone were to tell you 20 years ago that Tom Cruise would be 60 and still putting his life on the line for the sake of the cinematic experience, you’d probably say “that’s impossible.” Well, as preposterous as that might have sounded then, the actor who’s also a great stuntman has done just that for the upcoming MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING PART ONE, which opens in theatres on July 14, 2023.

Even though very little has been revealed about the movie, aside from some heart-stopping action set pieces put on display in its trailer, anyone who’s seen any of the previous MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movies knows that the movie is going to be one exhilarating moment after another, especially whenever Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is running away from, and into, danger.

The Equalizer 3

The powerhouse actor-director duo of Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua will get together for a fifth collaboration on September 1, 2023 for the release of THE EQUALIZER 3, with Washington once again portraying former United States Marine and DIA officer Robert McCall. Plot details are being kept under wraps at this time, but one thing we do know is that Dakota Fanning is slated to appear alongside Washington, the first time they have shared the screen since co-starring in Tony Scott’s 2004 action thriller MAN ON FIRE.

The first two installments in the franchise, which came out in 2014 and 2018, respectively, were both entertaining action movies that made a decent haul at the box office, so there’s no reason to think THE EQUALIZER 3 won’t do the same when it kicks off the fall movie season.

The Expendables 4

On September 22, 2023, fans of the action movies of yesterday and today will get to rejoice when THE EXPENDABLES 4 opens in the theatres and takes audiences on another wild ride with the titular mercenaries led by Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture. But, those four won’t be alone when the massive action movie takes to the silver screen, as Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Andy Garcia and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson are also set to appear.

Details are few and far between about the plot in THE EXPENDABLES 4, but let’s be real here, everyone who wants to see this movie is going to do so regardless of what it’s about, ourselves included.

These are just some of the promising action movies we’re excited to see come to AMC Theatres during the year, as there are tons of exciting movies scheduled to be released within the universes of Marvel and DC Comics as well.
