Nick Fury's Curious Absence

The highly-anticipated third Avengers movie, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, is said to feature almost every living character who made an appearance in the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as the Earth's mightiest heroes face off against the Mad Titan himself, Thanos (Josh Brolin). But according to recent reports, it seems that there's at least one character who's not invited to the event. It was recently reported that Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury won't appear in the film, and the fan favorite actor has a few things to say about his character's omission.
While promoting his upcoming buddy-comedy movie THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD, Samuel L. Jackson confirmed that he will not be reprising his Marvel role in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and the currently untitled fourth Avengers movie.
I wasn’t in the ‘superhero argument’ movie [‘Captain America: Civil War’], I’m not in ‘Avengers 3 and 4’. They’re shooting them now, and they haven’t called me yet
AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON was Fury's last appearance, where he successfully regained leadership of S.H.I.E.L.D. after its dissolution in CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER following HYDRA's infiltration. Given Nick Fury's importance to S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers initiative, his absence in the upcoming superhero epic will surely surprise fans - leaving us with some unanswered questions.
What Happened To Nick Fury?
In the same interview with Yahoo! Movies, Jackson went on to confirm that Fury won't be appearing in Black Panther either.
They wouldn’t let me go to ‘Black Panther’-ville, so it’s kinda like how you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?!
Given that Samuel L. Jackson played an important role in previous Marvel films and his character has such a high-ranking position, the actor's frustrations are understandable. However, Fury will return to the MCU in Captain Marvel, which stars Academy Award-winner Brie Larson as the titular hero. Although little is currently known about CAPTAIN MARVEL, the movie is said to be set in the '90s and will feature the Skrulls as the primary antagonists.
Who Else Will Miss Out On The Infinity War?
Unfortunately, Fury is not the only MCU character to be excluded from Prior to Jackson's revelation, Collider reported that Ant-Man's Wasp (a.k.a. Hope van Dyne), Captain Marvel and pretty much everyone from Marvel's countless TV series (such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Defenders, The Inhumans) won't be showing up in the third Avengers movie.
However, given the enormous scope of Infinity War, which will unite the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Marvel mages against Thanos and the Black Order, it only seems practical for the movie to exclude certain characters and cameos. This will undoubtedly be disappointing for some fans, but is surely the decision that will provide the best movie possible.
While it's possible that Nick Fury's appearance in Infinity War is being kept a secret and Jackson's statements are decoys similar to Michael Rooker's misleading appearance in the , the truth will only be known when the movie finally hits cinemas in May 2018.
