The Fast X Trailer Is Epic And Incredibly Personal

FAST X opens May 19th
Ever since the 2001 debut of THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, the Vin Diesel-led action franchise has become one of the most popular big-screen properties with nearly a dozen installments featuring heartstopping and epic action as well as incredibly personal stories centered on the Toretto family. And if the debut trailer of the soon-to-be-released FAST X is any indication, the next chapter in the Fast Saga is going to be the biggest, baddest, and most emotional journey yet.
After watching the FAST X trailer, we have some thoughts about the action and drama that unfolded in its nearly four-minute runtime, which will hopefully be a sign of things to come with the FAST AND FURIOUS franchise returns to AMC Theatres this May. Let’s race!
By now, everyone, even those who have yet to watch a full FAST AND FURIOUS movie, know that the franchise features some of the premier action sequences of the 21st century, but nothing that has come before compares to what goes down in the FAST X trailer.
Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) driving out of a cargo plane and landing on two cars before bringing down two helicopters, epic car chases, and new villain Dante (Jason Momoa) bringing unprecedented destruction to Rome in his quest to stomp out the Toretto family, are just a few of the scenes on display throughout the trailer. Hopefully this is just a small taste of what’s to come from the upcoming movie.
The FAST AND FURIOUS franchise has long had a tradition of enhancing its stories by calling back to previous installments, and that again appears to be the case with FAST X. Dante, the eccentric villain waging a personal war on the Toretto family, seems to have some kind of connection to FAST FIVE antagonist Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida), but the nature of his relationship with the ruthless drug lord robbed and killed by Dom and company in the 2011 action flick has yet to be revealed.
The Toretto family is no stranger to vengeful crime lords, shady governments, and run-of-the-mill criminals coming for them, as the gang has gone head-to-head with its fair share of villains over the past 22 years, both nothing like what was seen in the FAST X trailer. Though Dom’s son, Brian Toretto (Leo Abelo Perry), was already kidnapped and used as a bargaining chip in THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS, being captured by Dante in the latest installment in the franchise seems far more worse, considering the villain has already lost everything and wants Dom to feel his pain.
But little Brian isn’t the only target by Dante in the FAST X trailer, as other members of the family, and gang in general, all find themselves battling the mysterious antagonist, with danger lurking around every corner and on every crowded street.
In addition to introducing newcomers like Jason Momoa’a Dante, Brie Larson’s Tess and Rita Moreno’s Abuela Toretto , the FAST X trailer also saw the return of so many familiar faces from previous entries in the FAST AND FURIOUS franchise. Everyone and their mother are coming out for this one, quite literally considering Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) and his mother, Queenie Ellmanson-Shaw (Helen Mirren) appear, though not together.
Every single member of the Toretto family, including Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Mia (Jordana Brewster), and a returning Jakob (John Cena) get time to show off their driving and fighting skills in the explosive trailer, and they’re not alone. Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges), Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel), and fan-favorite Han Lue (Sung Kang) are all thrown into the action, giving the trailer an “all hands on deck” feeling. Even Charlize Theron’s Cipher is back in the fold, continuing her arc that started with THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS.
The final seconds of the FAST X trailer feature the tagline “The End of the Road Begins,” signifying we are in the end game of the FAST AND FURIOUS franchise. Those six words have us both excited for what the future holds but also worried about what’s to come, especially when it comes to the fate of some of those furious characters. Will everyone survive the onslaught that is about to happen or will the movie bring an end to one of those characters we have come to know and love the past three decades. Only time will tell.
As you can probably tell by now, the FAST X trailer has us all incredibly excited for what’s to come, but there is still some time to wait before the next chapter of the Fast Saga arrives at AMC Theatres nationwide.
