Rock and roll music, civil disobedience, and the desire to enact changes in a community or a society often go together quite nicely and have led to massive historical moments over the past century. Over the years, we’ve seen things like that chronicled in Academy Award®-winning documentaries, beloved TV series and other kinds of specials, and we’ll soon see it again with the upcoming release of KISS THE FUTURE.
This highly-anticipated documentary about a group of musicians and artists who used their talents and passions to shed light on one of the major military conflicts of the latter part of the 20th century, inspire one of the world’s premier rock bands and open the door for radical change, will soon be coming to AMC Theatres nationwide and we have all the details.
Here is how the power of music changed the world. Here is KISS THE FUTURE.
Defiant Musicians Living During Wartime
Between 1992 and 1996, Sarajevo, the capital and largest city in the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was under siege by the Yugoslav People's Army and later the Army of Republika Srpska, leaving the home of nearly 500,000 residents closed off from the rest of the world. Among them was a community of musicians and artists who came together for the greater good and attempted to get the word out about what was happening in the place they had long called home.
In KISS THE FUTURE, the story of those rebellious free-thinkers and their tireless crusade will be examined in great detail, allowing audiences to hear their story and see the impact of their efforts.
U2’s Promise Of A Post-War Concert
So, how did U2, one of the world’s biggest bands in the early ‘90s, find themselves traveling to Sarajevo to perform a post-war concert in front of 45,000 local fans? Well, KISS THE FUTURE explores how the group of musicians and artists mentioned above caught the attention of American aid worker Bill Cater, who then shared the inspirational message with members of U2, which led to them promising to perform what would become a historical concert once the city was finally liberated.
Featuring archival footage leading up to the event, as well as the concert itself, this incredibly moving story about the power of rock and roll will surely be something for fans of U2, history buffs and the open-hearted to enjoy.
Matt Damon And Ben Affleck Produce
KISS THE FUTURE is produced by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Sarah Anthony through their Artists Equity production company, which they launched with RedBird Capital Partners back in November 2022 and has since helped release the Academy Award-nominated AIR to moviegoers around the world.
The documentary itself, which is based on Bill Carter’s memoir, “Fools Rush In,” and directed by filmmaker Nenad Cicin-Sain, features appearances from former United States President Bill Clinton, award-winning journalist Christiane Amanpour and members of U2, all of whom were involved in the Bosnian War and share their memories and experiences from the siege and post-war concert.
Speaking on the documentary, Damon told AMC Theatres, “The powerful message of peace is as relevant and important today as it was in September 1997 when Bill Carter and Sarajevan community leaders brought U2 to post-war Sarajevo,” adding that Artists Equity was “proud to bring Nenad’s wonderful, life-affirming film to theater audiences across the United States.”
A Special Early Screening Event
On Wednesday, February 21, two days before the documentary opens nationwide, AMC Theatres will host a special early screening event exclusive to the Dolby Cinema at select locations nationwide as part of the AMC Artisan Films program.
This early screening, which is being called “KISS THE FUTURE: A Dolby Special Event,” will not only allow audiences to get an exclusive look at the upcoming documentary but will also allow them to watch a post-film discussion including director Nenad Cicin-Sain, writer Bill Carter, Sarajevan musicologist Vesna Andree Zaimovic and host Matt Carey of Deadline. The special screening will also feature a conversation with U2 members The Edge and Adam Clayton, who’ll talk about their history with the city’s creative community and the transformative experience of playing the post-war concert. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will also provide a short introduction to the documentary to kick off the event.
