TMNT Return With Mutant Mayhem

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM opens August 2nd

While it isn’t the first time the Turtles have found themselves on the big screen, the famed cartoon characters, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are returning to theatres once again, with TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM.

The franchise has had a total of six theatrical films so far, all a mix of animation and live-action, but TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM is going to be a full-return to animated form with an animation style that is unlike most cartoon versions of the turtles that fans have seen. Here are some things we know about the upcoming film – and when movie fans can head to a local AMC theatre to see it.

The Turtles Return To The Big Screen

The last Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film that released was back in 2018, when TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS – the sequel to the 2014 movie, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES – released in theatres. Now, fans will be returning to the world of the famous mutant turtles in animated form.

The movie follows an origin story for the turtles, who are named after famous artists – Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michaleangelo – known as Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey in this film. In TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM, the Turtle brothers have been shunned by the world thanks to who they are, but they decide that they are going to win the love of New Yorkers by coming out from the sewers and performing heroic acts.

When they meet April O’Neil, she helps them find criminals to take down, but when they end up crossing the path of someone stronger than them, they are faced with a mutant war, with mutants sent directly to them in a battle for the ages.

An Electric Cast

With any big animated movie, there is always an impeccable voice cast that follows, and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM is no different in that regard. What really makes this film such a fun one is that the four main Turtle brothers are all played by teen actors. According to the official announcement from their Twitter page, these include Nicolas Cantu as Leo, Shamon Brown Jr. as Mikey, Micah Abbey as Donnie, and Brady Noon as Raph.

And the rest of the cast is filled to the brim with stars. These names include Jackie Chan, Rose Byrne, John Cena, Ice Cube, Ayo Edebiri, Giancarlo Esposito, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Maya Rudolph, Post Malone, and more.

Just from that list alone, fans can already see that this is going to be a film that is packed with incredible talent. Many of these actors have actually had experience in voice roles before, such as Seth Rogen and Maya Rudolph. Others have appeared in hit television shows, like “Breaking Bad” and “The Bear.”

Jeff Rowe Directs

If you’re wondering who might be directing the upcoming movie, Jeff Rowe took those reins. TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM was directed by Jeff Rowe, who has already done a lot in animation throughout his time in Hollywood.

He was a writer for the hit Disney Channel show, “Gravity Falls,” as well as the Netflix adult animation series, “Disenchantment.” In terms of movies, he also co-directed the 2021 hit, The Mitchells vs. The Machines, which ended up getting nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Picture. He also wrote for that feature as well.

This will be his first time directing a film solo, but judging from the cast and his track record in the world of movies and television, it’s likely he’ll do a good job with TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM.

Watch The Trailer

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM already has a trailer that fans of the film can watch now. The trailer shows a fascinating animation style, as well as the four teens meeting April O’Neil, fighting crime in the streets, seeing who the main villain is, and much more.

Just from the trailer alone, fans can hear the variety of different voice acting talents that are used in the film, and it already looks like it’s going to be a great pick for anyone who wants to head to the theatres with their kids and enjoy a fun family-friendly flick.
