What do “The Simpsons” and “South Park” have in common besides being two of the most influential animated series of all time? If you guessed both cartoons received the big-screen treatment, then you would be correct, as THE SIMPSONS MOVIE and SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER AND UNCUT were both successful at the box office and featured the same charm that made the original series so great in the first place. Well, it’s happening again, but instead of Springfield and South Park audiences will soon be taken to the nondescript seaside town seen in “Bob’s Burgers.”
That’s right, THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE will soon land at AMC Theatres nationwide and serve up a hot dish of zany situations featuring the Belcher family as they find themselves in one of their biggest predicaments yet. But, before you bite into the main course, here’s a sampling of what you can expect to see in this promising animated musical comedy.
The Bob’s Burgers Movie Will Be Released May 27
THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE is scheduled to begin its theatrical run on Friday, May 27, just as Memorial Day weekend — and all of its grilling and burgers — gets underway. The long-awaited movie, which seems like it’s been in the works for the better part of the past decade, will kick off the summer blockbuster season and stands a chance at being one of the most popular animated movies of 2022.
First announced back in 2017, THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE was at one point going to be released in July 2020, but its theatrical debut was pushed back a couple of times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Longtime Members Of The Cast Are Back
This should come as no surprise, but longtime members of the voice cast from the popular Fox animated series will be back for THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE this summer. This means you’ll be hearing the voice of H. Jon Benjamin as Robert “Bob” Belcher Jr., John Roberts as Linda “Lin” Belcher, Dan Mintz as Tina Belcher, Eugene Mirman as Euguene “Gene” Belcher, and Kristen Schaal as Louise Belcher.
But that isn’t all, as several recurring characters and special guests who have been featured on the series throughout its 12 seasons will pop up throughout the movie, including Kevin Kline, Zach Galifianakis, Jenny Slate, and more. And, with the list of actors and actresses who have appeared on the show so far, there’s a lot of potential for some great surprises when THE BOB’S BURGER MOVIE opens on the big screen.
The Belchers Deal With A Massive Sinkhole
THE SIMPSONS MOVIE saw the titular family deal with an imposing glass dome being placed over the city of Springfield, and while the Belchers most likely won’t be dealing with government agencies and doomsday situations, THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE will see the hamburger-obsessed characters come face-to-face with quite a hairy situation: a massive sinkhole that ruins their big summer plans.
According to THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE logline, Bob and Linda will be forced to come up with rather inventive ways to keep their family business running, which will prove to be no easy feat considering that there’s a gigantic sinkhole blocking its entrance. As the adults are trying to save the business, the Belcher kids set out to solve a mystery that could have the potential to do just that. Both journeys appear to be difficult, but they are nothing the determined and crafty family can’t — eventually — handle.
Loren Bouchard Co-Wrote And Co-Directed The Movie
If you’re worried about THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE not having the same tone or comedic timing as the Emmy Award®-winning series, you will be glad to hear that the show’s creator and longtime creative force, Loren Bouchard, not only wrote the film adaptation alongside Nora Smith, he also served as director with Bernard Derriman. Bouchard, who has directed episodes of “Bob’s Burgers,” “Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil” and “Home Movies” over the years, will see THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE be his feature-length directorial debut.
With so many people who have been involved with the show over the years now working on the movie, it’s safe to say this film adaptation is in good hands and should feel like a bigger, flashier, and crazier episode of the beloved animated series.
A Mystery, Musical and Comedy Adventure
Throughout the show’s run, “Bob’s Burgers” has mostly been a comedy, but elements of other genres have been sprinkled on like extra ingredients on a delicious hamburger, and it looks like that will be super-sized when the film adaptation is served up in theatres this summer. During a panel at San Diego Comic Con 2021 (via Deadline) Loren Bouchard described the upcoming movie as “musical, comedy, mystery, adventure, and kind of coming-of-age story.”
Though he didn’t provide a whole lot of details about the specifics of the movie or how some of those elements play into its narrative, Bouchard did “guarantee it will be the best movie” he and his team could make and that no stone was left unturned.
Trailer Features Hamburgers In Bikinis, Robots, UFOs And More
20th Century Studios gave the world its first look at THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE in January 2022 with a 90-second trailer that comes off like a nice appetizer for the film’s main course later this year. Not too much is given away with the brief teaser, but it does give you a glimpse at what’s to come, including that ominous sinkhole, hamburgers in bikinis, robots, a UFO and so much more.
Overall, the trailer is nothing short of epic, especially with Carl Orff’s “O Fortuna” serving as the background music and expansive shots showing the Belchers riding horses through a vast wasteland. If a second trailer never materializes, though, fans of the series have plenty to get excited about with THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE.
Expect to hear more about THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE before it opens at AMC Theatres nationwide on Friday, May 27.
