THE MARVELS opens November 10th
When it comes to Marvel films, fans are often anxiously awaiting the next movie to arrive in theatres. We’ve also been introduced to new characters from shows like “Ms. Marvel” or “Moon Knight” and we’ve gotten to see characters we already know return in ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 and other thrilling films.
Now, the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are going to be seeing another familiar face when THE MARVELS releases, as well as newer characters that are just getting started in the MCU. If you are looking for a guide for the upcoming Marvel film, here is what you need to know.
While THE MARVELS was originally announced to be coming out in 2022, those dates were pushed back until 2023. It’s been confirmed that THE MARVELS is set to come out on November 10, 2023.
This is going to be one of several films that are part of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The phase began with ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA in February 2023, and continued with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, VOL. 3. The Marvel Disney+ show, “Loki” is set to release its second season in October, but after that, THE MARVELS will fly its way into theaters to continue Phase 5.
Another big piece of news is that THE MARVELS will be available to see in IMAX, so fans will be able to see the latest Marvel movie in IMAX if they’re looking for an even bigger screen experience.
With the release date coming closer, fans are likely aware that Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau are going on an epic body-swapping adventure in THE MARVELS, one unlike anything else out there.
Based on the trailer released by Marvel, the film will feature the three main characters in a strange situation – their light-based powers have become entangled, so now whenever the three use them, they switch places. It’s up to them to find a way to work together in order to take down someone that threatens the entirety of the universe.
Already, this plot sounds intense – and perfect for something like THE MARVELS.
Speaking of the trailer, you can catch a glimpse of the action (and the humor) that THE MARVELS will surely offer in the preview below.
It looks like there's a lot in store when these three heroes get together!
It wouldn’t really be THE MARVELS if Brie Larson wasn’t in the film, so she is set to return as Captain Marvel after her first appearance in her own original film, as well as AVENGERS: ENDGAME and a small cameo appearance in SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS.
Larson has done plenty of work in the industry, including her Academy Award® winning performance in ROOM, as well as appearing in SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD and so much more, so it’s exciting to see her return to the suit in THE MARVELS for the next installment of Captain Marvel’s story.
However, she will not be alone. In THE MARVELS, Captain Marvel is joined by both Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani, and Monica Rambeau, played by Teyonah Parris. The two characters both have powers that are cosmic and very strong.
Monica Rambeau was technically introduced in CAPTAIN MARVEL as a child, but we see her as an adult now in THE MARVELS, though she was first featured in the critically-acclaimed “WandaVision," so it’ll be cool to see her MCU feature film debut. Iman Vellani had her MCU debut with “Ms. Marvel” in the summer of 2022, and her character, Kamala Khan, was revealed at the beginning of the show to be a big fan of Captain Marvel, so she’ll surely be eager to work with her idol – despite the circumstances.
Also joining the movie is Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh and Samuel L. Jackson (who is reprising his role as Nick Fury).
If you were wondering who was going to be directing the next Captain Marvel film, Nia DaCosta has taken on the reins for THE MARVELS.
The young director has already proved herself plenty in Hollywood with her directing credits including the crime thriller LITTLE WOODS, as well as the 2021 horror sequel, CANDYMAN. And, fun fact, Teyonah Parris actually co-starred in CANDYMAN, so it’ll be a reunion for the director and the actress for THE MARVELS.
DaCosta has also done work in TV, with “Top Boy.” She also worked on the post-credits scene for “Ms. Marvel” during the episode, “No Normal,” so she was already dipping her toes into the MCU at that point. DaCosta is set to become the youngest director within the Marvel Cinematic Universe at age 33 at the time of THE MARVELS releasing. The record was previously set by Ryan Coogler, director of both BLACK PANTHER and BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER.
Truly, this is set to be a film that fans of Captain Marvel won’t forget and one that is going to bring a lot of fun to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
