The Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Trailer Is Spectacular
Remind Me SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE opens June 3, 2023
It’s been about four years since SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE dropped in AMC Theatres for fans to enjoy around the world. Superhero fans learned about the powerful Miles Morales, a half-Black, half-Puerto Rican version of Spider-Man who becomes Peter Parker’s protégé. Morales ends up getting these powers and has to take on enemies he never thought he would face.
The movie was incredibly popular, and a sequel was all but immediately guaranteed for viewers of the film who wanted to see the story continue. Now, the trailer for SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE has been released, and it looks to be just as exciting – if not more so – than the first film.
Miles Morales Is Back
It wouldn’t quite be SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE if the main man himself wasn't there, and thankfully. Miles Morales is back and better than ever – and looking a little more mature now.
In the opening shots of the trailer, we see Miles (voiced by Shameik Moore) talking with his mother, Rio Morales (voiced by Luna Lauren Vélez), who’s saying that she doesn’t want to lose the boy that she loves as he grows older, asking that Miles promise her that she won’t lose him, despite his world changing.
Throughout these first few seconds, the audience sees flashbacks to the previous film, showing Miles meeting Spider-Woman (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld), another version of Peter Parker (voiced by Jake Johnson) and more, before the trailer finally cuts to what fans can expect to see in the newest film.
The Spider-Verse Is Huge
As fans of SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE are aware, the Spider-Verse is huge and full of fascinating versions of Spider-Man that some fans might not even know exist.
In the first film, viewers were introduced to several of these, including Spider-Ham, a talking animal version of Spider-Man; Spider-Man Noir, a version of the character from a 1930’s universe; and even SP//dr:, also known as Penny Parker, a Japanese-American girl who is almost like an anime-version of Spider-Man.
However, in the new trailer for SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, just from the few seconds that fans see, there are so many different versions of Spider-Man, almost as if it’s like a “Where’s Waldo?” game with fans trying to identify how many different versions there are. During the quick trailer, fans see a version of Spider-Man who wears a bag over his head, one who rides a motorcycle, one who’s ridiculously buff, and a lot more.
Insomniac Spider-Man Has Arrived
For those who don’t know, back in 2018 – the same year that SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE was released – another version of Spider-Man grew very popular, and that was the PlayStation version from the video game, “Marvel’s Spider-Man.” The game was highly successful and grew a large fanbase, so much so that a sequel to it is coming out in 2023.
However, fans who were extra careful in analyzing the trailer will notice that the Spider-Man from that game is also in SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, as he is wearing the exact same suit that is exclusive to the PlayStation Spider-Man game. And, it has been confirmed that he is going to appear in the movie.
It’s super exciting to see video games and movies crossing over into one genre, and fans are, for sure, eager to see how their meeting goes down when the movie comes out.
Spider-Man 2099 Is Here
Obviously, with any Spider-Man movie that covers the universe of different Spider-People, there are bound to be new ones that are introduced. As noted earlier, viewers can see that there are plenty of Spider-Man iterations in the upcoming movie, but there are a few that SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE is going to focus on.
While there will be a new Spider-Woman from another alternate universe (voiced by Issa Rae) and even a version of Spider-Man called Spider-Punk (voiced by Daniel Kaluuya) who plays the guitar, everyone is talking about Spider-Man 2099 (voiced by Oscar Isaac), otherwise known as Miguel O’Hara. This is a version of Spider-Man who is known to be very destructive and is known for “not having a sense of humor,” as described by Issac himself in an interview with ScreenRant.
Just from the trailer, it looks like Spider-Man 2099 is going to be causing a lot more trouble than fans ever thought possible. And, in the very last shot, viewers can see Miles and Miguel fighting, something that nobody could have predicted – Spider-Man against Spider-Man? It looks like it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
While SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE won’t be coming out until June 2, 2023, there is still plenty of time to catch up on the world of Miles Morales – and re-watch the original film before more trailers and the movie itself swing into AMC Theatres across the country.
