4 Reasons To See Birds of Prey in IMAX
This year is set to be a big one for comic book movies, with female protagonists very notably front and center, and the action is all kicking off very soon. BIRDS OF PREY (AND THE FANTABULOUS EMANCIPATION OF ONE HARLEY QUINN) opens February 7, and anticipation is ready to boil over. Surely many of you have already purchased your tickets to see the film on opening weekend, but if you haven’t yet, here are four reasons you should consider seeing the brand-new blockbuster in IMAX at AMC.
The action is big, bright and colorful
Her name might be the last two words in the exceptionally long title, but Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is very much front and center in this new DC Extended Universe release, and that extends to the movie very much playing out from her perspective. Because she is a clinically diagnosed psychopath, much of the film is all kinds of wild and colorful — and that’s an experience that must be witnessed in IMAX. Harley is not one who plays things "small scale," and respect for that should be shown by seeing BIRDS OF PREY on the biggest screen possible.
You’ll get an immersive look at the wild Gotham underworld
To date, the DC Extended Universe hasn’t really done a whole lot of exploring when it comes to the streets of Gotham, which is surprising when you consider the franchise turns seven years old in 2020. Sure, we got to see bits of it in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, SUICIDE SQUAD and JUSTICE LEAGUE, but none of those films were exclusively set in the legendary comic book city. BIRDS OF PREY is the movie we’ve been waiting for in that regard, and what better way to explore than with the most immersive experience possible? IMAX theatres will definitely do the trick when it comes to revealing Cathy Yan’s Gotham.
The soundtrack is excellent
Most people immediately think about ginormous screens when they hear the word "IMAX," but not to be undersold is the auditory experience that the premium large format offers. It’s within that realm that BIRDS OF PREY is also a standout. Not only is it a blast to listen to the wonderful sound effects that are produced from well-choreographed fight sequences, but this film also features a specially curated soundtrack that gives it an atypical vibe. It’s an aspect of the movie that you’ll want to enjoy via the best quality sound system, and it’s hard to beat what IMAX at AMC offers.
Big screens = big crowds = perfect action-comedy environment
Like most comic book movies, the arrival of BIRDS OF PREY is being hyped as a blockbuster release, and massive throngs of people are expected at the ticket counter opening weekend. This is a great thing considering that action-comedies are best watched with a large audience — and in the discussion of crowd capacity, IMAX theatres are in scale with their screens. There is nothing quite like laughing along with a massive room of strangers while watching an action-comedy, and the antics of Harley Quinn in her new feature deliver.
