Knives Out: Our Favorite Movies From Each Cast Member

February 26th, 2020Knives Out: Our Favorite Movies From Each Cast Member

Though it was released back in November, Rian Johnson’s KNIVES OUT continues to hold on strong at the box office, and remains within the top 15 movies currently playing in North America. People can’t get enough of the star-studded mystery, and it’s hard to blame them, as it’s a truly fantastic film.

You can still see KNIVES OUT in select theatres or rent or buy the film on AMC Theatres On Demand. While you're at it, check out a few of our other favorite movies starring actors from the KNIVES OUT ensemble.

Daniel Craig — Logan Lucky

Daniel Craig – Logan Lucky

Before he played a Kentucky-fried detective in KNIVES OUT, Daniel Craig got his first swing at trying out a Southern drawl as a convicted demolitions expert in Steven Soderbergh’s LOGAN LUCKY — and the result is one of his most hilarious performances to date. The film centers on a pair of brothers (Adam Driver, Channing Tatum) who try and rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway, and it’s wonderful fun.

Jamie Lee Curtis — Halloween (2018)

Jamie Lee Curtis – Halloween

With David Gordon Green’s HALLOWEEN in 2018, Jamie Lee Curtis was given the opportunity to completely change the big screen story of her most iconic character, Laurie Strode, and it’s some of the best work of her career. Much like her performance in KNIVES OUT, she is a force of nature who has a massive presence, and it’s amazing to watch her go toe-to-toe with the immortal, knife-wielding Michael Myers.

Chris Evans — Avengers: Endgame

Chris Evans – Avengers: Endgame

Featuring Chris Evans as the dastardly Hugh Ransom Drysdale, KNIVES OUT intentionally messes with how the audience perceives the actor — with so much of that perception being driven by his time on the big screen playing Steve Rogers aka Captain America. Last year saw the end of Evans’s run as the character in Joe and Anthony Russo’s brilliant adventure AVENGERS: ENDGAME, and it’s an experience worth revisiting again and again if not just for the character’s beautiful send-off.

Ana de Armas — Blade Runner 2049

Ana de Armas – Blade Runner 2049

One might think that it would be impossible to create a great 25-years-later sequel to one of the greatest science-fiction films of all time, but nobody has yet made money betting against the brilliance of director Denis Villeneuve. Starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, the blockbuster BLADE RUNNER 2049 is an incredible, mind-bending epic that tracks a detective’s path through a futuristic mystery, and KNIVES OUT’s Ana de Armas plays a fascinating role as the digital girlfriend of the film’s protagonist.

Michael Shannon — The Shape of Water

Michael Shannon – The Shape of Water

While we get to see him show off some different shades in KNIVES OUT, Michael Shannon’s specialty throughout his career has been playing menacing, intense characters, and his role in Guillermo del Toro’s THE SHAPE OF WATER is a perfect example of such work. Overall, he’s just a part of what makes the Best Picture-winning feature so brilliant; however, the film also features some excellent unconventional storytelling, beautiful effects work and a collection amazing performances.

Toni Collette — The Sixth Sense

Toni Collette – The Sixth Sense

KNIVES OUT may be the most recent, but Toni Collette has starred in many great thrillers throughout her career, including one of the best of the 1990s. M. Night Shyamalan’s THE SIXTH SENSE is a modern classic for a reason, as even if you know its legendary twist ending it’s exciting to watch the whole thing unfold.

Jaeden Martell — It

Jaeden Martell – IT

It’s actually a bit strange to see Jaeden Martell play the tempestuous racist Jacob Thrombey in KNIVES OUT, if not just because the character is so incredibly different than his breakout role: Bill Denbrough in Andy Muschietti’s IT. He’s the leader of the Losers' Club, and it’s not hard to see why, as he is made of endless bravery and fortitude. No matter how many times you watch the film, it’s always great to see him lead the charge against the horrifying Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

Katherine Langford — Love, Simon

Katherine Langford – Love, Simon

Alongside Ana de Armas and Jaeden Martell, Katherine Langford is one of the most exciting up-and-comers in Hollywood that also happens to be a part of the KNIVES OUT cast. Further proof of this can be found in the romantic dramedy LOVE, SIMON. The actress plays the best friend of the movie's lead, played by Nick Robinson, and altogether with Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Garner, Alexandra Shipp and Jorge Lendeborg Jr., there is a great ensemble that sparks a wonderful energy in this lovely movie.

Don Johnson — Book Club

Don Johnson – Book Club

Don Johnson is no stranger to being a part of blockbuster hits, with other big successes on his resume including DJANGO UNCHAINED and THE OTHER WOMAN. Another hit on that list is Bill Holderman's BOOK CLUB. The 2018 movie sees Johnson star alongside Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen, which is really just too good of a cast to miss.
